[edit] What is an Carpenter?

What is a Carpenter? Well, an Carpenter is one of the two sub-professions of the Artificer. This means that when trained as an Carpenter, access is gained to not only the special Carpenter Recipes but also the Artificer Recipes. The Carpenter has the unique ability to create wood staves, bows, arrows and focus items along with invisibility totems that aid adventurers in their travels. The Carpenter can also create components for ship building and are the main profession that crafts sloops, caravels and galleons.

The way Carpenters craft these items is by using wood naturally found in the world. These include barbed, knotted, dusky, to name the 'common' ones. There are also rare wood that can be found and used to make upgrades to items as well as create rare items from special recipes, including ship building. It's no suprise that the primary Harvesting Skill chosen by many Carpenters and is the Lumberjacking profession.

Once an Outfitter reaches level 11, you are then presented with a choice of specilizations. You have two:

This choice is presented to you in the form of a Specialization Quest. This quest is always granted by the Artificer Instructor in your home town. You will be instructed to visit a NPC and craft whatever that NPC asks of you in order to prove yourself. Once you have done this, you will be able to then choose which sub-profession you want to follow and begin your new career with a new title.

There are a myriad of people you will have to meet in your career as a Carpenter and we will try to list some of the more important NPCs here.

These are your basic instructors that you will need to see when you want to learn new recipes as well as for some quests.

Masters are important Carpenters as they tend to have valuable quests for you and they will not always be easy.

Tiers and their names:
Level 1+: Novice
Level 11+: Amateur
Level 21+: Apprentice
Level 31+: Initiate
Level 41+: Journeyman

There are a couple of important quests that a Carpenter should remember to do, even though they many not reward you with actual Carpenter recipes. There are Tier quests that are availiable at levels 11, 21, 31, and 41. These quests open up more recipes to the Carpenter as you gain in level.

Then there are Continental Quests. Continental Quests are different than Tier Quests because these are Carpenters you need to speak to in foreign lands when you wish to learn how to craft things in their style. For example, if you start on Thestra, but wish to leave and learn how to craft swords like a Qalian Carpenter, you would first need to perform this quest. Certain requirements will need to be met such as faction with the local artisans and crafting level. This information is listed in the quest page.
